Method 1: In-App Search (Mobile & Desktop)

Spotify's built-in search is the most direct way to find another user. The key is knowing which filter to apply — by default, Spotify search returns a mix of artists, tracks, albums, and podcasts, and user profiles are easy to miss.

On Mobile (iOS & Android)

Finding a User on the Spotify Mobile App

Tap the Search icon at the bottom of the screen. Type the person's name in the search bar. Scroll down in the results until you see a "Profiles" section — or tap the "Profiles" filter chip near the top of the results if it appears. Tap the user's name to open their profile.

If you don't see a Profiles filter, the person may have a common name that returns many artist results. Try being more specific by adding a word you know appears in their display name.

On Desktop

Click the Search icon in the top navigation. Type the person's name. In the search results, look for a "Profiles" section, usually appearing near the bottom of the initial results. You can also click the "See all results" link and filter by Profiles to see a dedicated user list.

Method 2: Direct Profile Link

If you know someone's Spotify username (their actual user ID, not necessarily their display name), you can navigate directly to their profile using this URL format:

https://open.spotify.com/user/[their-username]

Spotify usernames are often not the same as display names. They're typically auto-generated strings (like 1234abcd5678) assigned when the account was created, though some older accounts have custom usernames. The profile link works with both formats.

You can find someone's username by asking them to share their profile link, or by checking if they've posted their Spotify link on another platform like Instagram, Twitter/X, or their website.

Method 3: Share Link / QR Code

The most reliable way to get to a specific person's Spotify profile is to have them share it with you directly. In the Spotify app:

They can then send you the link via any messaging app. This bypasses any search limitations and takes you directly to their profile.

Why Spotify Search Is Limited

Spotify's search is primarily built for finding music, not people. User profile search is a secondary feature that hasn't received much development attention over the years. As a result, it has some notable limitations:

What You Can See on Someone's Public Profile

Once you find someone's Spotify profile, here's what's publicly visible:

You cannot see their private playlists, listening history, top artists, saved songs, or any private account data. That information is only accessible to the account holder through their own authenticated session.
